Individual Therapy

A process of coming home to yourself

Areas I can support you with include stress and burnout, overwhelm, anxiety, people pleasing and appeasing others, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, struggling to feel safe around people, shame, low self esteem, intense self criticism, feeling like you’re too much / not enough, loneliness, masking your true self, reconnecting with yourself and others, and enhancing self acceptance.

I offer time-limited and open-ended therapy in York and online, depending on what might support you best right now. I typically suggest 8-12  sessions to begin with, with the possibility to continue. Sessions are usually on a weekly basis.

Fortnightly sessions are possible after an initial block of weekly therapy. This pace can work well for clients who need extra processing time between sessions. Monthly or ad hoc sessions are only available for clients where we’ve been working together for several months.

Areas of interest

I also have areas of special interest, including:

  • Alchemy of Menopause: Midlife and menopause often bring profound changes to your body, mind, mood, relationships, identity, and felt sense of who you are. You might feel as if you have lost yourself, or are discovering a different you now. Old wounds might come back to the surface. Together, we’ll create a supportive space to process these physical, emotional, and social thresholds, to reconnect with your transforming self as you step into this next stage of life’s cycle.
  • Healing from Your Past: Early experiences of abuse and neglect, and other relational hurts, have a way of following us into the present—shaping how we view ourselves and how we relate to others. We might feel like a stranger to ourselves, asking ourselves ‘why am I like this?”. I offer a trauma-informed space to explore familiar patterns, persistent self-doubt and emptiness, to connect with more safety to yourself and your history, and to nurture more supportive connections.
  • Identity & Belonging: Whether you’re navigating your LGBTQIA+ or QTIPoC identity and expression, experiencing later in life realisations about who you really are after years of masking, stepping into a new career or lifestyle, or exploring your cultural or racial multiplicity in a culture that wants you to choose one identity, feeling truly seen matters. We’ll work together to help you honour all your selves and ways of being, and move through major life changes with more ease and self acceptance.
  • Spiritual Conversations: Life, change, and loss often prompts questions about who we are, what gives our life meaning, and where we fit in the universe alongside human and more than human kin. How do our life choices and needs co-exist with a cultural or belief system we belong to? There is much in the world today and in our collective histories that can feel too big to make sense of and to know how to respond. For everyone with a curiosity about what it means to live a good life, I offer a grounded, open space to explore these questions, and to cultivate a deeper sense of ease.

Understanding the ways we learn to survive

Sometimes the ways we learn to protect ourselves in difficult or overwhelming circumstances stay with us long after those circumstances have passed. They can shape how we experience ourselves, our bodies and our relationships.

In therapy, we can gently explore these patterns, making space for what has happened and paying attention to what feels possible in the present. There is no expectation to revisit experiences before you feel ready, or to work in any particular way.

Fees

My fee is £55-£70 per 50-minute weekly session (you choose what is affordable for you), payable in advance of each session.
